DeMar DeRozan joins exclusive 25K club

Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan continues to add to his Hall-of-Fame-worthy resume.

The six-time All-Star crossed the 25,000-point mark during Thursday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls, becoming the 27th player in NBA history.

DeRozan, who finished the night against his former team with 22 points–his fifth-straight game with 20 or more points–and five assists, is the sixth active player to have scored 25,000 or more points, joining LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook, and Stephen Curry.

“It really hasn’t hit me,” DeRozan said on accomplishing the rare feat following Thursday’s loss.

“Sucks losing, but I don’t know. I think maybe tomorrow, day off, it’ll kind of sink in. It’s an honor. It’s always an honor to still be able to play this game at a high level. In my 16th year, to be recognized at the top of scorers in this league. I’ve been a fan of this league since I was a kid, I have nothing but love and respect for all the people who came before, all the people who built this league and to be able to be niched in any type of history in this league is an honor.”

DeRozan’s Hall of Fame case is all but a certainty, and at 35 years old, he continues to score among the best in the game.

Over 64 appearances this season, DeRozan holds averages of 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 48 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent from three-point range (career-high).

Here’s a look at where DeMar DeRozan ranks on the NBA’s all-time scoring list:

More on DeMar DeRozan & the Sacramento Kings

If you anticipated a Kevin Huerter revenge game in his first matchup against the Sacramento Kings since being traded, your hunch was correct.

Huerter, who made his return to Golden 1 Center after being included in the three-team trade that brought Zach LaVine to the Kings and sent De’Aaron Fox to San Antonio, established a new Chicago Bulls career-high of 25 points to go along with four rebounds and seven assists to lead his team to a 128-116 win on Thursday night.

Sacramento was riding high off a surprising win over the NBA-best Cleveland Cavaliers one night prior and appeared to be well on their way to another victory in this one, but a 19-point lead quickly turned into a deficit after Chicago turned the tables once play entered the second half.

The Kings (35-34) squandered an opportunity to pad its lead over the Phoenix Suns for the ninth seed spot in the Western Conference standings but instead dropped its advantage to 2.5 games with 13 contests to go.

DeMar DeRozan crossed the 25,000-point mark for his NBA career, but otherwise, there weren’t many bright spots in this one for the Beam Team.

A Jekyll & Hyde season continues for Sacramento, and the past 24 hours of basketball clearly encapsulate the roller-coaster of emotions this team has endured.
