Nottingham Forest 'ready to push' for £60m-rated ace as transfer claim made

Nottingham Forest have been credited with an interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Matheus Cunha ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Reds were linked with the Brazilian in January amid speculation about his future. It was understood at the time that any deal was unlikely to happen.

Cunha went on to pen a new contract to keep him at Wolves until 2029. However, that hasn’t prevented the 25-year-old being in the spotlight once again as the end of the season looms.

TBR Football claim Forest are “ready to make a real push” for Cunha in the summer. It is said the Reds are “looking to be ambitious” amid the prospect of sealing qualification for the Champions League.

The report suggests “lines of communication” between Forest and Cunha’s camp have remained open. It is said the club are “not being discouraged” from entering the mix for his signature.

The 25-year-old reportedly has a release clause in his contract worth in excess of £60m. To meet such a figure would mean the Reds having to break their club record transfer outlay by a very considerable margin.

The £35m the club paid Newcastle United for Elliot Anderson is their current highest fee, although that essentially became £15m as Odysseas Vlachodimos headed in the opposite direction for £20m as part of the deal. Additionally, Profitability and Sustainability Rules will have a significant bearing on any business Forest do.

The Reds know what it is to fall foul of the financial regulations, having been docked four points last season for doing so. They do not want to be in the same position ever again.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have already been linked with Cunha. Moreover, he is said to have interest from Saudi Arabia but his preference is to remain in Europe.
