San Francisco 49ers Urged to Make Wild Brock Purdy Decision

The San Francisco 49ers have a lot of work to do to get a new contract extension done with Brock Purdy. Over the last three years, he has become one of the most talked about quarterbacks in the NFL, although he is coming off of a down year in 2024.

Speaking of the 2024 season, Purdy played in 65.9% of his pass attempts for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He played in 15 games.

Those numbers were well down from his 2023 production, although there were other reasons for that dip.

Brandon Aiyuk went down with a season-ending knee injury after just seven games and star running back Christian McCaffery was only able to play in four games.

Losing both of those players were huge factors in the 49ers ending the year with a 6-11 record and missing the playoffs.

While the overwhelming expectation is that San Francisco will get a new contract done with Purdy, one analyst believes that the 49ers should make a wild decision about his future.

During a segment on "Breakfast Bell," analyst Craig Carton boldly stated that he thinks San Francisco should entertain the idea of trading Purdy.

"I think San Fransisco should entertain the notion… dare I say it… of trading Brock Purdy," Carton said. "If you were willing to give up 3 first round picks for Trey Lance, what do you think other teams will give for Brock Purdy?"

At just 25 years old, trading a franchise quarterback like Purdy would be an extremely risky decision for the 49ers.

NFL insider Mike Garafolo has suggested that Purdy "has a strong case" to get a new deal worth close to what Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott received last year. That deal pays him $60 million per year.
