New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen is already on the clock. He is fighting for his job. One bad decision on revitalizing the quarterback position and he is on the unemployment line.
It is time for Schoen to do the right thing and end the drama. It is time to give up on signing the estranged Aaron Rodgers and sign Russell Wilson.
Wilson has already said he is ready to sign with the team. He said he would sign a team-friendly one-year contract for $5 million.
Schoen should be like Nike, "Just Do It."
Wilson is 36 years old. He has plenty left in the tank. He led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl title and was one bad Pete Carroll decision away from winning a second. The guy is a proven winner. Wilson played well for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season and led them to the playoffs after taking over for Justin Fields.
Rodgers on the other hand, is 41 and washed up. He played for a bad New York Jets team last season and single-handedly got his coach and general manager fired.
The same result will happen to Schoen and coach Brian Daboll should they wait for Rodgers. Rodgers has shown he is too old to carry a team on his shoulders.
Rodgers was a good quarterback back in the day when he was younger and with the Green Bay Packers. The Packers then saw he was aging terribly and traded him to the New York Jets for whatever they could get. The Packers got the better end of the deal.
The Packers trading of Rodgers to the Jets is reminiscent of the Jets trading Joe Namath to the Los Angeles Rams before he retired. He was a good player and had his day in the sun, but at some point, your career has to end.
The Packers would not have drafted Jordan Love and gone to him so quickly if Rodgers had anything left. The Jets gave him every opportunity and even gave him his favorite wide receiver Davante Adams, another aging bust, who could not handle it in New York.
The Giants need to presume they will not get a starting quarterback, who will be ready on Day 1. Miami's Cam Ward is not going to be available to them as he will more than likely go No. 1 to the Tennessee Titans.
There is no other quarterback worth the Giants third pick. Maybe they can get a Tier II quarterback like Jaxson Dart in the second round.
Accordingly, the Giants are going to have to sign and start a veteran. They need to get the best one available.
Wilson should be Schoen's guy and he needs to sign him now. Wilson is coming off a season where he threw 16 touchdowns against five interceptions in only 11 games.

Rodgers is showing how he is a prima donna. He knows two teams are waiting on him to make a decision and he is on a beach somewhere weighing his offers. He is a "me first" guy and not a team player.
It is time for Schoen to put his big boy pants on, tell Rodgers thanks, but no thanks, and sign Wilson who actually wants to play for the Giants.
