Rodgers is Visiting With Steelers Today

Friday might be the day we see the dominos start to fall.

According to published reports, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is at the Pittsburgh Steelers facility today meeting with coaches and members of the front office.

Rodgers, 41, was recently released by the New York Jets after two seasons. The Steelers and New York Giants are both in play for Rodgers services, but the Steelers are apparently Rodgers first choice.

The Steelers do not have a true starting quarterback at this time. They brought back Mason Rudolph who was a backup for the Steelers two years ago. He started a few games for the Tennessee Titans in lieu of starter Will Levis who was out with an injury.

Rodgers, according to sources, prefers the Steelers over the Giants based upon his affinity for the Rooney family that owns the team and his admiration for head coach Mike Tomlin.

Should the Steelers ultimately agree to terms with Rodgers, it would almost trigger a Russell Wilson signing with the New York Giants.

Wilson, the starter for the Steelers at the end of last season, is a free agent and the Steelers have made no attempt to re-sign him during free agency.

It appears as though Pittsburgh will either attempt to sign and start Rodgers and then draft a rookie quarterback high in the draft. In the event they do not reach an accord with Rodgers they could start Rudolph in the season opener and groom a rookie to take over when ready.

Members of the Steelers have said they feel comfortable starting the season with Rudolph behind center. Defensive tackle Cam Heyward has gone on record endorsing Rudolph and said either Rodgers wants to sign or he doesn't. He doesn't see any reason to chase him.
