After a quiet first couple of transfer windows under Arne Slot, the upcoming summer window looks set to be at least slightly more busy.

Speaking to the BBC back in January, the Liverpool boss said as much. "Liverpool should always be competing for a league title, we should always be competing for the Champions League. I'm hoping I will be able to keep the club at that level,” he said.

"I know people sometimes question this because they haven't seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well. There's a reason for that - because we're happy with the squad.

"But I do know we're definitely working on strengthening in the summer."

Despite the window still being months away, there has been speculation over what deals could be done. The Reds have been heavily linked with an interest in Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez.

The left-back has been one of the standout performers in his position in the Premier League this season. If Liverpool complete a deal he is likely to come straight into the line-up, replacing Andy Robertson.

Another player who has been linked in recent days is Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. The striker moved to the Spanish side from Man City in an £80 million deal last summer and has scored 23 goals so far this season.

If Liverpool do follow up their reported interest, then the 25-year-old would again expect to be in the starting XI, with Diogo Jota as back-up. That would then allow Liverpool to cash in on Darwin Nunez.

A third player to be linked is right winger Jeremie Frimpong, with reports that communication between Slot and the player is ongoing. However, if a move is completed, his place in the starting XI is likely to depend on the future of Mohamed Salah, although the Dutchman can operate in a deeper role, as he sometimes does for Bayer Leverkusen.

Salah, along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract in the summer and could leave the club on free transfers. While it looks more likely than not that Alexander-Arnold will complete a move to Real Madrid, Liverpool will still be hoping that they can convince the other two to extend their stay.

If they are successful in doing that, then Frimpong would provide competition to Salah on the right side of the front three. But, given his influence on the team so far this season, the Egyptian is likely to get the nod.

The exit of Alexander-Arnold would leave Slot with a decision to make over who replaces him. However, Conor Bradley has been a more than able deputy so far this season, and deserves a chance to show what he can do as first-choice right back.
