West Ham youngster Ollie Scarles has caught the eye at the London Stadium since Graham Potter’s arrival.

The 19-year-old has become a regular feature in the Hammers side under the former Chelsea boss as a left-wing back in a back five.

This has often seen Emerson dropped from the side which, given his credentials, is no mean feat for the teenage defender.

The performance level of the youngster could be set to result in him earning an England call-up as Thomas Tuchel looks set to take charge of his first Three Lions encounter.

Potter has always had an eye for an academy product at all his clubs and that is no different since taking over at the London Stadium.

This could stand the left back in good stead ahead of the new season as the Irons look to have a much better campaign.

It could also be a season to remember for the 19-year-old who could be destined for an England call-up, says former Irons midfielder Martin Allen.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Allen said: “Is there anyone else at West Ham who could earn a call-up?

“Within a couple of years, Scarles will without a shadow of a doubt.

“*I think if he carries on with his work rate and ethic, he will go on and play for England.*“

West Ham gem on their hands with Scarles

Nowadays, it is so difficult to build a team that is able to compete in the Premier League.

This has been showcased by an excellent-looking transfer window from the Hammers which ultimately went on to be a failure.

The addition of Max Kilman, to an extent, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have proved to be successful in a rare case from the summer.

The likes of Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez have proved to be a waste of funds and have had a damaging effect on the club in truth.

With that being said, having a player as great as Scarles coming through the academy can only be seen as a positive after a difficult season.

A teenager who is so comfortable at the top level already and will only get better can allow the Irons to focus on other areas in the market moving forward.
