Jets Make Massive Trade Up to Secure Top Prospect in New Mock Draft

The New York Jets have the seventh pick in this year's NFL Draft and could go in a variety of directions with the pick. They have multiple needs, including potentially at quarterback, so mock drafts have been a bit all over the place with them.

However, their potential trading up is something that hasn't been seen often in mocks.

That makes the Jets trading in what would be a massive move to take top prospect Travis Hunter out of Colorado with the No. 5 pick in the draft fascinating to see.

In a recent mock draft from NFL.com's Mike Band, two quarterbacks go in the top three, the Patriots prioritize left tackle, and the Jets trade up with the Jaguars.

With the Jaguars always selecting Mason Graham seemingly in mock drafts, they trade down two spots and still take Graham in what would be a smart move on paper.

The Jets lost D.J. Reed to the Detroit Lions in free agency, so adding cornerback help in the draft makes sense.

The team also needs a replacement for Davante Adams at receiver to help out new quarterback Justin Fields, so Hunter could fill two significant needs in one.

The best part of this mock draft for the Jets is they take advantage of their division rival New England Patriots passing on a generational prospect for offensive tackle Will Campbell out of LSU.

If that actually happened, fans of both teams would likely clash on social media.

Other interesting picks include Tetairoa McMillan going to the Seattle Seahawks with the No. 18 pick, and Will Johnson going at pick 17 to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Both players were consensus top ten picks early on in the draft process, but now often fall to the teens or early twenties.

If the Jets were to secure Travis Hunter in the NFL draft, it could signify a positive turning point for the franchise.

After a messy era with Aaron Rodgers bringing lots of hype to the team but immediately getting injured, then leaving the team in a blaze of glory after convincing the team to bring in some of his former teammates, a great pick like this would help the vibes tremendously.

Beyond how much he'd help on the field, Hunter would bring a lot of media attention to an already big market, but would assumedly be much more positive than the media circus Rodgers brought to the team on the way out.

Trading up to select Hunter would be a very positive move for a franchise plagued with past mistakes.
