Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has left the Brazil national team camp and will return to the club after a head injury on international duty last night.
The Liverpool man started Brazil’s World Cup qualifier game against Colombia on Friday. But he had to be substituted in the second half after clashing heads with former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez in the 2-1 win over Luis Diaz’s side.
His injury raised immediate worry as to whether it was a serious issue, as he needed a stretcher to leave the field.
After the game, the Brazilian national team doctor confirmed that Alisson was substituted due to a “suspected concussion” but reassured that “he’s ok.”
The goalkeeper reportedly “felt a little dizzy and had ear pain” after the incident.
As a result, Brazil took no risks and followed concussion protocol.
He has already been ruled out of their next game against Argentina.
Liverpool have now released a statement confirming his injury and the next course of action for the goalkeeper.
“Alisson Becker has departed the Brazil national team set-up and will return to Liverpool,” a club statement read.
“The goalkeeper was forced off in the second half of his nation’s World Cup qualifier with Colombia in the early hours of Friday following a collision.
“Alisson is travelling back to Merseyside and will undergo assessment from the Reds’ medical staff.”
The Liverpool goalkeeper is the second member of the Reds’ 17-man international contingent to return to the club following an injury scare.
Ryan Gravenberch was the first to leave the Dutch national team camp due to an injury he sustained during Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final loss last Sunday.
The news about the midfielder’s injury issue sent panic waves across the Liverpool fanbase, given his importance to Arne Slot’s team this season.
However, a report on Friday doused those fears, as it confirmed that the decision to allow him to leave the national team training camp was purely “for precautionary reasons.”
