Nottingham Forest’s kits from the 1990s ranked from best to worst
Nottingham Forest fans are dreaming of European away trips for next season as the Reds eye a place in the Champions League. They have had an impressive campaign to date under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo and are sat in the top four along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea with the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion chasing them down.
The club won two European cups under Brian Clough and their supporters may well get the chance to see their team play abroad again very soon. There is still work to do done though and they will be eager to keep their form going after the international break.
Steve Cooper was the man who got them back into the Premier League back in 2022 and they have managed to stay there. They won promotion after beating Huddersfield Town in the play-off final at Wembley and they haven’t looked back since.
The 1990s was a turbulent spell for Nottingham Forest and they were promoted to the top flight twice during that decade. Their kits at the time were made by Umbro and they had a very striking jerseys that we have worked our way through and ranked from worst to best, here are the results...
6. 1998 to 2000
Nottingham Forest stepped away from just having red on their shirt and decided to have pinstripes in the second tier. They aren’t for everyone and although the collar looked smart, they ended the 90s on arguably their worst kit of the lot. The Reds wore it for two seasons heading into 2000 and it was worn by the likes of Dougie Freedman, Alan Rogers and Chris Bart-Williams.
5. 1992 to 1994
Again pinstripes were the name of the game for Nottingham Forest from 1992 to 1994. They had a red block on their white shorts as well to mix things up a bit. They were promoted from Division 1 wearing this though so every cloud has a silver lining.
4. 1990 to 1992
Nottingham Forest had a collar and players such as Nigel Clough and Teddy Sherringham would strut their stuff at the City Ground it in. They were playing in the top flight as well and it was sponsored by Shipstones before they eventually switched to Labatt’s a couple of years later.
3. 1997 to 1998

They brought some black on to their top in 1994 and kept it for a few years as it was popular among their supporters. Nottingham Forest won the First Division title under Dave Bassett wearing the 1997/98 home shirt and Pierre van Hooijdonk scored 34 goals in all competitions.
2. 1996 to 1997
1996/1997 ended up being a disappointing season for Nottingham Forest and they were relegated after finishing in 20th place. Nevertheless, despite that campaign turning out to be a nightmare, they at least wore a smart top and ended up keeping the design for a while.
1. 1994 to 1996
Nottingham Forest enjoyed the spell from 1994 to 1996 and had a nice and slick kit to go with the good times. They reached Europe, just like they hope to again nowadays, and played in the UEFA Cup. The Umbro jersey had a collar and was sponsored by Labatt’s.
