If Aaron Rodgers is going to become a Pittsburgh Steeler, it’s not happening at this moment.
“Aaron Rodgers has left the Steelers’ facility,” The Athletic’s Dianna Russini tweeted Friday afternoon. “The two sides have yet to come to an agreement at this time.”

Rodgers made the trip to Pittsburgh Friday in what NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero framed as “last minute type of meeting” that pulled Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan off the Pro Day trail, skipping their annual trip to Michigan. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac, first to report the meeting, Rodgers met with Tomlin, Khan, and some of the Steelers’ offensive coaching staff.
Dulac noted the same and noted Rodgers’ visit included meeting offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Despite Rodgers’ departure, a deal could still happen.
Rodgers also met with OC Arthur Smith during his visit. He has left the facility without a deal, but that doesn't mean it still might not happen, per sources. https://t.co/260dA5giml

Disappointing as it is to see the saga drag out, Rodgers leaving without a contract isn’t a shock. In the initial reporting of the trip, Dulac and other reporters indicated the visit wasn’t to finalize a deal. Instead, it was a get-to-know-each-other meeting to presumably determine if Rodgers is the right fit and vice versa.
Other questions remain. If Rodgers isn’t signing today, when could it occur? Does he intend on visiting the New York Giants, too, the other team who has courted him throughout this process? That would be a logical move but Rodgers isn’t obligated to meet, especially if he’s confident Pittsburgh is the right place for him.
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Steelers have had a contract offer on the table to Rodgers for the past two weeks. Money doesn’t seem to be the hang-up. For Rodgers, a free agent for the first time in his career, the fit is what matters. He’s presumably closer to a decision but as of the moment, hasn’t completely made up his mind. Reportedly, Pittsburgh will wait as long as it takes and today’s meeting ostensibly makes them more willing to be patient.
