Tottenham face three hurdles in replacing Ange Postecoglou with Andoni Iraola

A fresh report has now shed light on just how keen Tottenham are on replacing Ange Postecoglou with Andoni Iraola in the summer. However, there are also three reasons why the Lilywhites will find it difficult to bring the Bournemouth boss through the door.

Iraola’s stock has risen dramatically on the back of the impressive couple of seasons he has had at Bournemouth and the Spaniard is now unsurprisingly being touted for bigger jobs.

A number of sources have reported over recent weeks that Iraola is Tottenham’s top target to replace Ange Postecoglou at the end of the season.

Some outlets have even gone so far as to report that Spurs have already contacted Iraola regarding a potential switch to North London, but a fresh report has suggested that the Lilywhites will not find it easy to get their man.

Tottenham face three roadblocks to appointing Andoni Iraola

TEAMtalk have now become the latest publication to confirm that the Cherries boss has emerged as the ‘main target’ for Spurs, who see him as an ‘elite coach’ who can build a championship-competing side at N17.

However, they say that Tottenham will face three potential hurdles in appointing Iraola if they do decide to make a change in the summer.

One of those is that the 42-year-old may not want to jump ship to Spurs, especially if Bournemouth achieve European qualification.

Secondly, Iraola is also allegedly being watched by a number of elite sides across Europe and could thus decide to bide his time and wait for a bigger job.

Finally, the possibility of the 42-year-old signing a new contract with Bournemouth remains alive, with the South Coast club determined to hang on to their head coach and willing to offer him an improved contract.

What is Tottenham’s stance on Ange Postecoglou?

TEAMtalk make it clear that even though Iraola is the main candidate to replace Postecoglou, Spurs have not decided to part ways with the Australian coach just yet.

The Tottenham hierarchy will continue to keep tabs on the Cherries boss but they will only decide on Postecoglou’s future when they know their fate in the Europa League.

How Spurs perform in the competition is thus expected to be critical to deciding the former Celtic boss’ future in North London.
