Liverpool and Spurs scouting Bundesliga striker

Tottenham Hotspur travel to face fierce London rivals Chelsea when the Premier League returns at the start of April.

The two sides both benefit from an extended rest period with the international break followed by the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, which neither Spurs nor Chelsea are in.

The match at the start of April could prove crucial for both sides, with Spurs currently sat 14th in the Premier League table, while the Blues occupy fourth spot.

Away from the pitch, it appears that the Lilywhites have been scouting an in-form Bundesliga star.

As per TBR Football, both Tottenham and Liverpool have been scouting Mainz star Jonathan Burkardt.

The report claims that the two Premier League sides have watched the striker in action in recent weeks, while Manchester United, Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion have all also watched the 24-year-old in action.

Liverpool have also had scouts watching Burkardt in action

Burkardt is a product of the Mainz youth academy and has now played 137 times for the German side across all competitions at senior level.

He has scored 42 goals in that time, and this season has been his most impressive to date with the German having netted 15 times in 22 Bundesliga matches.

West Ham United were considering a move to sign the player last year, the report claims, but he ultimately stayed put in Germany.

The forward – who was handed his senior debut for Germany against Bosnia and Herzegovina in October last year – is under contract with Mainz until the end of the 202/27 campaign.

Liverpool are said to be prepared to sell Darwin Nunez this summer, and the Merseyside outfit could therefore then be interested in signing a new forward.

Spurs, meanwhile, have struggled with injuries in attack this season, with the likes of Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson having had spells on the sidelines.
