David Andrews Roasts Mike Felger For Drake Maye Critique

David Andrews might not play for the Patriots anymore, but he’s still more than willing to protect Drake Maye — even against someone like Michael Felger.

Andrews appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub on Friday to talk about his somewhat surprising recent release. The hour-long interview was unsurprisingly insightful given Andrews’ willingness to chat. But the longtime center was also able to get a little shot in at Felger, who went semi-viral earlier in the offseason for his critiques of Maye.

Maye, you might recall, didn’t attend the introductory press conference for new coach Mike Vrabel. Felger went off on Maye with multiple rants, saying the quarterback should have been in Foxboro, Mass., for the occasion. Felger also compared himself to Maye saying he doesn’t miss shows when there’s big news.

Well, fast-forward to Thursday. The Celtics announced they have agreed to a deal to sell the team to businessman Bill Chisholm. A pretty big Boston sports story, no? Well, when 2 p.m. ET rolled around, Felger wasn’t on the air and instead had the day off.

Andrews made sure to point that out Friday during his appearance on the “Zolak and Bertrand” show.

“When the whole when Vrabel got hired, Felger was on the schtick of Drake Maye should have been here, and yesterday, yesterday, I would say, was it the biggest news in Boston? There will be bigger news, but the Celtics just got sold and Felger’s nowhere to be found,” Andrews said.

“Kind of interesting to me now. … I’ve heard you (Zolak) call into the show, call into the morning show, so a little interesting by Felger. If you’re gonna go down that route, you’ve gotta be about it.”

Maye, by the way, had a good reason to miss the presser. He was on vacation with his longtime girlfriend to decompress after the season. Oh, they also got engaged during the trip, too.

It’s unclear why Felger — who was also out Friday — wasn’t back in the mix. Perhaps he doesn’t think the sale of one of the big four teams is worth doing the show. And in total fairness, Felger’s father recently died, so it’s possible his absences were related to that.

Either way, Andrews’ needling seemed to be in good fun, and Patriots fans will probably love to hear him protecting his quarterback, even if he’s no longer in the organization.
