[Buffalo Bills](https://www.buffalorumblings.com/) general manager Brandon Beane announced on Friday, March 14 that newly signed [defensive end Mike Hoecht and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi will each serve six-game suspensions to start the 2025 season](https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2025/3/14/24386034/buffalo-bills-sign-2-free-agents-with-pending-suspensions) for violating the NFL’s PED policy. Those penalties carry significant financial consequences.
Per _Spotrac_, Hoecht is expected to forfeit approximately $1.47 million during the suspension:
* $1 million in base salary ($3,000,000 / 18 weeks \* 6 Game suspension)
* $293,000 in signing bonus
* $180,000 in per-game active roster bonuses ($30,000 per game)
Because Hoecht’s suspension was handed down after his deal was finalized, the Bills will now receive cap relief from the forfeited money.
Ogunjobi’s situation is a bit different. Ogunjobi’s suspension was announced before he officially signed his contract, which allowed for the Bills and Ogunjobi to restructure the terms of his contract accordingly. His salary guarantee has been voided (per Spotrac), and his previously reported contract numbers ($8.3 million) were reduced / renegotiated:
* Approximately $1.5 million reduction in base salary: $4,500,000 to $3,000,000 (this is equivalent to the 6 game suspension @ $250,000 per game).
* Approximately $310,000 in signing bonus reduction - signing bonus is now $3,426,735
Exact numbers for Ogunjobi initial contract remain unconfirmed, but it was initially reported as a $8.3 million 1 year contract with incentives to take it to $10 million. It’s likely the Bills built in protections to recoup salary cap from the initial contract amounts announced. Ogunjobi’s new contract is 1 year $6,696,735. His 2025 cap hit is $4,106,684 and 2026 dead cap will be $2,570,052 for the 3 prorated signing bonus void years.
“Anytime you lose players to suspension, it hurts from a roster standpoint,” Brandon Beane said when announcing the suspensions. While he didn’t directly comment on the cap implications, the forfeited salary and bonuses will provide the Bills with some financial flexibility as they continue to build their 2025 roster.
