Report: “Members of Liverpool’s recruitment team know” £50million transfer target very well

With the final international break of the season underway, Liverpool’s summer transfer strategy is beginning to take form.

Arne Slot is set to oversee significant changes to his squad, with reinforcements likely in defence, midfield, and attack as he imprints his philosophy on the team.

Liverpool’s defensive plans depend on Virgil van Dijk

A key factor in Liverpool’s defensive rebuild is the future of Virgil van Dijk.

If the captain does not sign a new contract, Liverpool will need to prioritise centre-back reinforcements, with multiple names already linked.

One player who continues to be discussed is Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, and David Ornstein has now provided insight into what to expect from the 19-year-old’s future.

Dean Huijsen expected to move this summer

Liverpool were linked with Huijsen when he left Juventus last year, but the teenager ultimately signed for Bournemouth in a £12.8m deal. However, his time on the South Coast may be short-lived.

Speaking in a transfer Q&A for The Athletic, Ornstein confirmed that Huijsen is expected to move this summer, with clubs circling due to his £50m release clause.

Liverpool’s director of football, Richard Hughes, has strong ties to Bournemouth and is well aware of Huijsen’s potential.

“Richard Hughes and members of Liverpool’s recruitment team will know him particularly well given their links to Bournemouth,” Ornstein added.

“But I’m not sure if they’re pursuing him yet. They may need to create space in the centre-back department first.”

Competition for Huijsen is growing

Although Liverpool have Huijsen on their radar, they are not alone in their admiration. Chelsea are reportedly looking closely at him, while other elite clubs across Europe are monitoring his situation.

“We know Chelsea have been looking closely at him,” Ornstein revealed.

“Newcastle have been heavily linked, though I’m not sure I see that materialising. Even massive clubs like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are being mentioned.”

With such high-profile competition and a £50m price tag, Liverpool will need to decide whether to push forward with a move. Their summer plans may hinge on van Dijk’s decision, but if he leaves, expect the Huijsen rumours to intensify.

As Ornstein suggests, this won’t be the last time Liverpool’s name is linked with the young Dutch defender.
