Liverpool keen to keep hold of midfielder

With less than three months remaining until the end of the season, the futures of three key Liverpool players remain firmly up in the air.

Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk will all be out of contract at the end of June, with the trio currently set to be available as free agents at the end of the current campaign.

All three players have played key roles for Arne Slot’s side this season, but it remains to be seen whether any of them will still be at Anfield by the start of next season.

One player that is likely to stay put, however, is midfielder Harvey Elliott.

According to Football Insider, the Merseyside outfit are desperate to keep hold of midfielder Elliott beyond this summer.

The report claims that the 21-year-old has been disappointed with his relative lack of game time this season, having failed to start a single Premier League match so far this term.

Elliott is said to be frustrated at his lack of playing time this season

The Englishman joined the Reds from Fulham in 2019 and has since spent time on loan at Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

In total he has played 140 times for Liverpool across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and registering 16 assists.

The midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a regular in Slot’s side this term, though, making just 21 appearances so far.

Elliott is under contract with Liverpool until the end of the 2026/27 season, and the report claims that the club are keen to ensure the player stays put amid possible interest from other sides.

Clubs in the German top flight showed interest in Elliott during the recent January transfer window, and the Reds are anticipating further interest when the window reopens this summer.

It is also claimed that Liverpool are set for talks with the player about an extension to his current deal.
