Aaron Rodgers has been rumored to be the next quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers for quite some time. And while Steelers star Cameron Heyward certainly welcomes someone like Rodgers coming in, he isn’t going to give any sort of pitch to him either.
Since the start of NFL Free Agency earlier this month, Rodgers has been linked to the Steelers. But it seems as if he has treated the Steelers organization as simply an option instead of a priority…
Rodgers was reportedly a bit more interested in going to the Minnesota Vikings than going to the Steelers. But after Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell publicly declared that they weren’t interested in Rodgers at this time, Rodgers has seemingly moved toward his second option, the Steelers.
Naturally, the looming addition of Rodgers is something that is enticing to Cameron Heyward. But when he was jokingly asked on his podcast, Not Just Football, whether he would be willing to go on a “darkness retreat” with Rodgers as a pitch for him to sign with the Steelers, Heyward made it clear that no pitch should be necessary to want to play in Pittsburgh.
“I ain’t doing that darkness retreat,” said Heyward, as reported by TMZ. “I don’t need any of that crap. Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That simple, that’s the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch. Straight and to the point!”
Heyward does have a good point. The Steelers are an organization with a rich history of success and a culture of winning under head coach Mike Tomlin. So if Rodgers doesn’t want to play in Pittsburgh, that is more of an indictment on him than it is on the Steelers…
Luckily, it seems like Rodgers, who has taken his sweet time to come to an eventual decision, which still hasn’t happened yet, is at least moving toward coming to terms on a deal with the Steelers.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rodgers took a visit to Pittsburgh on Friday and spent six hours in the Steelers’ facility. It was reportedly a “positive” visit, which could mean that a signing could be coming soon.

Regardless, Heyward clearly wants Rodgers to decide whether or not he wants to be a Steeler sooner rather than later. Because in his eyes, it isn’t a hard decision at all.
