Aaron Rodgers wanted to join the Vikings. But they don’t want him.
So after Minnesota said “no thanks” to Rodgers, his immediate playing options narrowed to the Giants and Steelers.
It’s clear Pittsburgh is a better option for him at this stage of his career. And now, Rodgers is moving closer to picking Pittsburgh.
He was at the Steelers' training facility Friday, spending time with coaches, according to multiple reports. Though “no deal is done or imminent,” according to NFL Network, things appear to be moving in that direction.
So what would the Giants do if Rodgers indeed picks the Steelers?
Well, that would mean they would’ve struck out on Matthew Stafford (trade attempt) and Rodgers (free agent signing). Their third option seemingly is Russell Wilson. He visited the Giants' facility recently. So did Joe Flacco and Jameis Winston, who are probably behind Wilson, in terms of the free agent quarterback the Giants prefer.
The Giants probably won’t be able to draft Cam Ward at No. 1 this year, since the Titans seem set on staying there and taking him. Will Shedeur Sanders go No. 2 to the Browns? Or could he be available for the Giants at No. 3? Wilson has also visited the Browns, remember.
It’s possible the Giants could pass on a quarterback at No. 3 — especially if Sanders goes second — if they sign Rodgers or Wilson. But doing that seems much less likely if they settle for Flacco or Winston.
