CHERRIES skipper Abby Jones expressed her pride for the side ahead of their game against Bristol Rovers at the Vitality Stadium – where they can claim the National League Division One South West title.

The team have reached two finals, progressed to a record-equalling stage in the FA Cup and have won all 17 of their games in the league so far this season.

Following their victory over Moneyfields in the league on Wednesday night, they just need to win one of their final five games of the league campaign to seal the title and promotion.

This comes after they were so close to promotion last season, going unbeaten throughout the campaign, but were unable to beat Exeter City on the final day, their hosts going up as champions.

Asked about her pride for the team for this season so far, Jones told the Daily Echo: “I'm so proud.

"I'm obviously only 21, I'm quite a young captain and to be able to lead this team is such an important thing for me.

“We have such an incredible squad here and to have everyone that's on the same page, the same mentality is so important and I'm so proud and privileged to be able to lead the team out onto the pitch and hopefully we can have a positive achievement on Sunday.”
