Florida State DL Joshua Farmer Has Pre-Draft Visit Scheduled With Steelers

Florida State defensive lineman Joshua Farmer is in high-demand this draft season. That includes a trip to Pittsburgh. peaking to reporters ahead of his Friday Pro Day, Farmer revealed the Steelers are one of several organizations he has a pre-draft visit scheduled with.

“I got like nine top 30 visits,” Farmer said via the Noles247 YouTube channel. “I’ve talked to all the top teams. I know I’ve talked to Cleveland. I talk to the Bills and Kansas City everyday…I talked to Philly yesterday, I got a visit with them. Houston, I gotta go to the Steelers. I’ve talked to mostly everybody.”

It’s no surprise to see Pittsburgh’s interest in Farmer. A big defensive lineman with rare length measuring in at 6027, 314 pounds and 35 1/4-inch arms, Farmer broke out in 2024 for the Seminoles. He finished his final season with eight tackles for a loss and four sacks, serving as team captain for a majority of the season.

Across 42 games and 25 starts, Farmer registered 80 tackles (21 TFL), 11 sacks, two pass deflections, and one forced fumble.

In our scouting report, Tom Mead highlighted Farmer’s quick get-off and twitch while noting his positional flexibility. Per PFF, most of Farmer’s work came over the B-gap but he has experience playing over tackle, too. Negatively, our profile noted a lack of a pass rush plan and a motor that could run hotter. His college production wasn’t overwhelming as Florida State endured a difficult 2024 season.

Farmer attended this year’s Senior Bowl where Mike Tomlin and company attended.

Mead gave Farmer a fifth-round grade, nothing he had the physical tools but technique that requires refinement.

“Overall, Farmer has good height, weight, and elite length with good play strength. He has experience playing from the 0-tech to the 5-tech in one- and two-gap schemes. At the snap, he has twitchy burst with solid hand placement. His best rushes are push/pull and a bull rush. With a lane he has good acceleration to the quarterback. As a run defender, he can penetrate gaps in a 1-gap scheme and set the edge in a two-gap along with stacking blockers when one-on-one.

Areas to improve include getting his motor to run hotter, improving hand usage as a pass rusher and developing a pass-rush plan. Block destruction, snap quickness on Zone runs and improving his anchor against double teams will help him in the run game.”

Farmer is currently projected as a third-round pick. If Pittsburgh doesn’t address defensive line in the first round, Farmer could be on their short list with the 83rd overall selection. He’ll likely come in for a visit over the next couple weeks, trips that are often announced by reporters who cover the team.
