Erling Haaland has voiced his confidence in Manchester City amidst the storm over the 130 charges brought against them by the Premier League, stating he got "a good feeling" from the club while in talks over a new contract. The striker, who penned a whopping nine-and-a-half year deal with the champions back in January, remains unfazed by the controversy surrounding alleged financial misdeeds at the Etihad Stadium, which are currently under scrutiny by an independent tribunal following a comprehensive 12-week hearing.
Despite facing accusations that have seen rumours of potential point deductions reaching triple figures and whispers of title strips, the reigning English champions remain steadfast, claiming they hold conclusive evidence that will exonerate themselves from claims levied over two years ago. Amidst this turbulent backdrop, Haaland, while on duty with Norway's national team, made it clear that such issues did not deter him when agreeing to his lengthy contract with City.
Upon being queried about his choice to sign amidst the unresolved charges, Haaland said: "I have said about 300 times why I signed a nine-and-a-half year contract."
"I spoke to the club, got a good feeling, and agreed to it in the end. That’s why."
To further demonstrate City's stance of rigid confidence, the club reportedly didn't feel the need to include escape clauses for their players in any contract talks despite the ongoing uncertainty, instead carrying on with 'business as usual'.
Premier League chiefs allege the breaches occurred between 2009 and 2018. Any appeal process could drag well into 2026.
