What Alan Shearer said about Newcastle's Dan Burn immediately after his England debut

Dan Burn helped Thomas Tuchel start his reign as England manager with a win over Albania.

The Three Lions won 2-0 at Wembley on Friday night, with Dan Burn making his international debut.

The 32-year-old was named in England’s starting lineup and went on to keep a clean sheet.

Burn almost scored on his England debut too, only to be denied by the woodwork.

Despite not finding the net, it was an impressive performance from the Newcastle United defender.

Alan Shearer reacts to Dan Burn’s England debut

That is the view of Toon legend Alan Shearer, who spoke about Burn’s England debut on The Rest Is Football YouTube channel.

“Unbelievable, isn’t it,” Shearer said when asked about the week that Burn has had.

“For him to get to the age of 32, for him to have this week. Score in the Carabao Cup final, win the Carabao Cup. Then to get called up for England, make your debut and to have a really good game, keep a clean sheet.

Dan Burn’s perfect week continues after Newcastle United heroics

Burn can be very happy with his performance against Albania.

While he did endure a couple of uncomfortable moments after Armando Broja came on, it was a largely solid display from the Geordie centre-back.

He moved the ball well and tried to break the lines when he could, while he also did the basics defensively.

It is another landmark for Burn, who is now a full England international. He is also a major trophy winner, after Newcastle United lifted the Carabao Cup.

He was pivotal in that victory, with Burn scoring Newcastle’s first goal against Liverpool. It was a thunderous header, as he set the Magpies on their way towards their most famous victory ever.

It was the stuff of dreams for Burn, whose fairy-tale is continuing.

In less than seven days, he has won twice at Wembley. Once with Newcastle United and once with England.

Burn’s next Wembley appearance could come on Monday night, with the Three Lions facing Latvia in their second 2026 World Cup qualifier.
