Man United are prepared to join Liverpool in the race to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful season and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that Ruben Amorim is a “big fan” of the 25-year-old.
There is a feeling that he would be the “perfect fit” for the manager’s system given his work-rate and dynamism, while scouts have been keeping a close eye on his progress.
However, any deal will likely depend on whether United can cash in on the likes of Kobbie Mainoo as they are currently in a difficult financial situation.
This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed Nottingham Forest want to keep Gibbs-White and are prepared to do everything they can to see off interest.
The England international has become a crucial player at the City Ground under Nuno Espirito Santo, helping to lead their push for Champions League qualification.

Man United plot ‘huge’ Morgan Gibbs-White swoop
Football Insider revealed on 1 January that Liverpool have a “concrete” interest in Gibbs-White, and he is one of their top targets ahead of the summer window.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked as a scout for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, insisted that Forest are likely to demand a “huge” fee if they decide to let him go.
“*Man United have been looking at Morgan Gibbs-White,*” he told Football Insider.
“He’s a player who is highly mobile, works very hard, and has this sort of dynamism to his game.
“That’s something Ruben Amorim likes and needs in the system he wants to play.
“I’m told Amorim is a big fan of Gibbs-White from what he’s seen.
“He’s spoken before about Mason Mount, who’s been injured but is not too dissimilar to Gibbs-White in terms of the role they would play.
“I think that’s a move United will be interested in if they can tempt him to leave Forest.
“Whether they’d be able to get it done, because of their financial situation, is unclear.
“It’s looking like if they’re going to spend any sort of big money, they’re going to have to sell somebody first, maybe somebody like Kobbie Mainoo.
“Nottingham Forest won’t let Gibbs-White go cheaply, it will be a huge fee to tempt them into selling.
“Especially if they get Champions League football, which it now looks like they will.”

Marcus Rashford asking price boosted after latest exit twist
United’s financial situation has led them to consider cashing in on a number of the club’s academy graduates, with Mainoo’s exit growing more likely.
Alejandro Garnacho was subject to interest from Chelsea during the January window, while Man United will accept £70million for Mainoo this summer.
However, Marcus Rashford’s successful loan spell at Aston Villa has made his sale a possibility, as Brown told Football Insider Man United have raised Rashford’s asking price.
The 27-year-old’s recent England call-up has increased interest in a permanent move, with Villa, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all believed to be interested.
