NBA Makes Historic Kevin Durant Announcement Following Suns-Cavaliers

In his seventeenth season in the NBA, Kevin Durant remains an elite scorer. Durant, 36, dropped 42 points on the Cleveland Cavaliers (handing them their fourth straight loss) during a 123-112 victory on Friday night.

Durant and the Phoenix Suns have now won three consecutive games and currently hold the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference. Durant's strong play remains one of the biggest reasons the Suns remain in playoff contention.

Durant finished Friday's win shooting 17 of 29 from the field, scoring a game-high 42 points, adding eight assists, six rebounds, and one block. By making 17 field goals, Durant passed Kevin Garnett, moving to No. 13 all-time in field goals made in NBA history (10,506).

This is the second time Durant has scored at least 40 points in a game this season. Durant scored 43 points against the Detroit Pistons on Dec. 21. Durant made history twice on Friday night. Durant became the fourth player in NBA history to have multiple 40-point games in his seventeenth season or later in NBA history (per @StatMamba on X).

Durant joined LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with his performance on Friday night.

Durant now sits just 12 made field goals away from John Havlicek for No. 12 on the all-time list. Assuming Durant remains healthy, he could catch Havlicek this season. The Suns have 11 games remaining in the regular season. Their next matchup is against the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night.

Durant is averaging 26.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game this season. Durant also sits at No. 8 all-time on the points scored list in NBA history (30,469).
