Manchester United star is the Premier League's fourth slowest player this season, Ruben Amorim needs a replacement

Ruben Amorim will be hoping for a rebuild at Manchester United this summer with several positions tipped as priorities.

It has become apparent that the squad currently representing the Red Devils is far from good enough.

Despite some standout exceptions, the majority of Ruben Amorim’s side will be available to leave this summer, with Manchester United set for a busy transfer window.

It is unclear which United players will survive the rebuild, but already several look more than likely to leave with little future in Amorim’s plans.

Fabrizio Romano outlined four priority signings for United, one of which was a new central midfielder to replace Casemiro.

Now, it is clearer than ever the Brazilian must go.

Casemiro is the Premier League’s fourth-slowest player

Last month, Amorim admitted Casemiro wasn’t physically at a Premier League level anymore, something which is no shade as his age catches up with him.

Now, a study by Opta has cast light onto the true magnitude of Casemiro’s problem, making the case to get rid of him even more tempting.

Ranking the Premier League’s five slowest players, Casemiro is seen on the list, which is an issue for Amorim as he requires intensity from his midfielders.

Five slowest players in the Premier League

Rank Player Top speed

1 Bernardo Silva 29.4 km/h

2 Craig Dawson 29.6 hm/h

3 Mikel Merino 29.8 km/h

4 Casemiro 30.2 km/h

5 Tomas Soucek 30.2 km/h

Being so slow will always make it difficult for the Brazilian to function naturally in the system Amorim is trying to implement. Recent successes of Casemiro have been great to see but ultimately Amorim is changing the system slightly to accommodate for the Brazilian.

This season, Casemiro has averaged more tackles per 90 than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues with 4.97.

Paul Scholes recognised the improvements Casemiro had shown recently, but it shouldn’t change the desire to replace him this summer.

Who should Manchester United sign to replace Casemiro?

Even if Casemiro was playing a starring role for United, keeping him and his £350,000-a-week contract would not be advisable and goes against everything Ineos are trying to do.

Therefore, seeing Casemiro leave and a younger player arrive who is more befitting of the system in place.

When replacing Casemiro, United may look at an option like Chris Rigg who long term could become a Roy Keane-esque midfielder.

But an option we would love Ineos to consider is Angelo Stiller from Stuttgart.

That being said, it is possible United could view Sekou Kone as the replacement option.
