Newcastle and Liverpool set to meet again? – An early hint at the club’s summer plans

Still with 10 games to go in the current Premier League campaign, it looks like Newcastle’s pre-season plans are already starting to take shape.

As part of the club’s ongoing efforts to bolster revenue and grow international support, it’s looking increasingly like the club plays some big games abroad like they did in Australia and Japan last summer.

And amongst the current plans, a potential Carabao Cup final rematch could be on the cards…

According to The Mail’s Craig Hope, Eddie Howe and Arne Slot’s sides could be set for a friendly fixture abroad as part of both side’s pre-season plans.

Hope reveals that Newcastle are exploring the possibility of a tour of the Far East and have identified Hong Kong as a potential landing spot.

With Liverpool having similar plans ahead of the 2025/26 season, it’s believed a friendly has been proposed at the brand-new Kai Tak Stadium between Newcastle and the soon-to-be Premier League champions.

Amongst other teams looking to play in Kowloon in the summer are Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and AC Milan, who have each held talks with organisers over potential fixtures.

It appears this will rule each of the four Premier League clubs out of the annual ‘Premier League Series’ in America that Newcastle themselves competed in back in 2023.

Another visit to Adidas HQ

The Magpies could also be on their way back to Germany as part of our pre-season plans.

Hope reports that Howe and the squad are ‘likely’ to head back to the adidas HQ in Herzogenaurach that was visited last summer following our renewed partnership with the German sportswear giant.

On their last trip there, Newcastle played a behind-closed-doors friendly against SpVgg Unterhaching, where goals from Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy and Alexander saw Howe’s side run out 3-1 winners back in July.

Alongside trips across Europe and Asia, what else could Newcastle United have in store for pre-season?

It would make sense for the club to continue their multi-year deal with Sela and host the Sela Cup at St James’ Park once again, with games on Tyneside likely to take place the weekend before the 2025/26 season kicks off on 16th August.

With the likes of Fiorentina, Villarreal and Girona having competed in the event for the last two seasons, Newcastle’s recent Carabao Cup victory may have raised their prestige in the eyes of some of Europe’s elite who would accept an invitation to St James’ Park of their own pre-season plans.
