Man United announced their plans for a 100,000-seat new stadium last week but are yet to reveal how they will pay for the ambitious project.
United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe insisted he wants the new ground to be the “world’s greatest” and hoped it could be completed in five years.
Old Trafford has been United’s home since 1910 and the club considered refurbishing the stadium, before electing to build a new ground.
UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has already given Government backing to the plans, which include a regeneration of the surrounding area.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that he suspects public money will be used towards the £2billion cost of the new stadium – despite protestations to the contrary.

Borson insisted the plans have been released now in a bid to “leverage the momentum” and secure public funds for the project.
He told Football Insider: “It’s clearly a very exciting project.
“The taskforce put in place is trying to push this through with central government as one of the key projects over the next few years.
“If they can do that, they can capitalise on the opportunity. Central government has said they will support with the building of infrastructure.

“They say there won’t be public money for the stadium, but I suspect that actually there will be a benefit for United.
“They have to leverage the momentum now in government to get a spade in the ground and the whole thing kicked off.
“If they don’t do it now, you wonder how it can be a viable project.”
