Speculation continues to surround Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United.
Shay Given is confident Alexander Isak will stay at Newcastle United this summer having spoken to the Swede after the 2-1 Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool.
Dan Burn opened the scoring in the first half before Isak doubled the lead shortly after half-time. Federico Chiesa pulled one back in stoppage time but the Magpies held out to finally end their 70-year domestic trophy drought.
Isak’s goal was his 23rd of the season and his 58th since joining from Real Sociedad for a club-record £63million in August 2023, making him one of Europe’s in-form strikers.
The 25-year-old has been regularly linked with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona but after speaking to him post-match at Wembley, Given is hopeful he’ll remain at St James’ Park next season.
Given told Sky Sports Football: “I think Alex mentioned in his interview that this is the start of something special. I didn’t outright ask him [if he was staying] but that gives me confidence he’ll be here next year because I think he is a huge part of the club.
“To go to the next level, you want to build your team around Alexander Isak. I hope he is going to stay.”
Newcastle United’s stance on Alexander Isak made clear
Speaking to the media earlier this month, Newcastle CEO Darren Eales confirmed plans to address Isak’s future at the end of the campaign.
Isak is under contract until 2028 and the club has no intention to sell him, despite talk of a £150m price tag.
“We’re going to be clear – he has multi-years left,” said Eales. “We will have the discussions in terms of a new deal, just like we did with Joelinton, Bruno (Guimaraes) or Anthony Gordon. That’s something that we will approach in the summer.

“The reality is that all of our players are under long-term deals. They’re committed to the club. So, from that perspective, we’re not looking to move any player on. We have no intention at all of those players being moved on.”
Alexander Isak addresses his future
Isak is currently on international duty and was this week quizzed by the Swedish media about his future.
"There’s not much to say, really," the former Borussia Dortmund striker told Fotbollskanalen, via Sky Sports News. "I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times. I’ve described how much I love the city and the club, and how much I like it there.
"As usual. I don’t think about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, I want to finish strong and get a Champions League. game That’s all I am focused on.”
