Connor Roberts may have only played 14 league and play-off games for Leeds United last season, but it was long enough for the people at the club to leave a mark on the defender. Roberts joined Leeds last January to try and aid the club's push for the Premier League after going on loan from Burnley.
The Clarets would find themselves relegated, while Roberts was unable to aid Leeds at Wembley having played as a substitute in the play-off final. A year on he is now hoping to succeed with Burnley where he fell short last year with Leeds, as Scott Parker's side chase automatic promotion.
With eight games of the season remaining Burnley lie third in the table, two points behind the Whites and Sheffield United in the automatic promotion places. Unbeaten since last year and now starting to turn many of their draws into victories, Burnley are making a charge for the top two.
If they are to get there, Roberts it is hoping it is at the expense of the Blades and now Daniel Farke's men, who he is hoping can join Burnley in winning automatic promotion to make it a special double celebration.
“I was only there for a few months and I didn't play many games, but there's so many good people at Leeds behind the scenes, whether it’s the media team and stuff like that," explained Roberts.
“Obviously I know a lot of the lads, the physios and nutritionists and all that type of stuff. They're all fantastic people. If I'm being honest I would love for them to get promoted and us to get promoted as well, that is the dream when the whistle goes on that last game of the season.
“But we just concentrate on ourselves and try and win as many games as we can and what will be, will be. If it isn't quite good enough and we have to go into the play-offs, then so be it. We have to just take it on the chin and perhaps we'll have a really nice day out at Wembley.”
