Robert Lewandowski was on target for Poland in a 1-0 win over Lithuania in World Cup qualifying but also asked to be substituted just before the final whistle.
The 36-year-old spoke after the match and said he’s been bothered by a niggle for a few weeks and didn’t want to make the injury worse.
> “I’ve had some problems for three games, but today it was better,” he told reporter.
>
> “In the end, it was better to let go off, so nothing would get worse. I think everything should be fine. I hope it’s not a big problem.”
Poland boss Michał Probierz also offered an update but is confident Lewandowski will play again on Monday against Malta.
> “Lewandowski had a minor injury. But it’s nothing serious, and I think he’ll be able to play in the next match,” he added.
>
> “This is nothing new, and we have to congratulate him for showing up at training camp and doing everything he can to rebuild the team and be a strong point for the national team.”
