Bryan Robson doesn't want to see Jadon Sancho play for Manchester United again, claiming the 24-year-old winger doesn't suit the club's famous DNA. Sancho is currently on loan at Chelsea until the end of the season, but intensifying reports suggest that the Stamford Bridge outfit are exploring ways to pull out of their obligation to buy him.
The Blues sealed the loan on deadline day last summer and, as part of the agreement, are obliged to make the deal permanent for between £22million and £25m, if they finish above 15th in the Premier League. Enzo Maresca's side are all but guaranteed to achieve that criteria, but Sancho hasn't set the world alight since his United exit, descending his future into uncertainty. Chelsea can reportedly pay the Red Devils a significant fee, thought to make up most of the obligation price, to breach the agreement and send him back to Old Trafford.
According to GIVEMESPORT, United consider Sancho's situation a win-win, even if he returns to the club in the summer.
Club chiefs are said to believe that even if Chelsea drop out of the deal, they can boost their funds on top of the significant fee by offloading the England international elsewhere.
Former captain Bryan Robson hopes Sancho has played his last game for the club, suggesting he doesn't fit the identity of a United player.
"Yes. I just don't think Manchester United's DNA suits Sancho. So I think for his career, he needs to move on," Robson told Express Sport with betselect.co.uk.
Sancho joined United from Borussia Dortmund in a £73m transfer in 2021 but never really found his feet in English football.
Erik ten Hag's public admission that he had excluded the No. 25 from a matchday squad at Arsenal in September 2023 due to poor training performances was the beginning of the end.
Sancho's refusal to apologise for reacting to those comments on social media by essentially calling Ten Hag a liar led to a four-month exile at Carrington.
He returned to Dortmund in the second half of the 2023/24 season, but the Bundesliga giants opted against making his comeback permanent.
Ten Hag allowed Sancho to take part in pre-season last year, but it quickly became apparent that he didn't feature in the Dutchman's plans.
Chelsea offered him an escape route, but the West London club could soon become the latest to send Sancho packing.
Ruben Amorim has made it clear that he only wants players who are fully committed to his vision around his squad, which prompted Marcus Rashford's January exit to Aston Villa.
While Robson also told Express Sport of his desire for Rashford to remain at United this summer, he is expected to join Sancho and leave for good later this year.
