The Reds already have Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund in their ranks but are continuing to be tipped to be in the market for a new centre forward in the months ahead.
Ekitike is a striker who has been linked with joining United, but he is not the only one. The 22-year-old is joined by the likes of Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, who have all been mentioned as potential targets for United.
Friday night saw Ekitike star for France Under-21s in their clash against England, and sent a clear message to United in the process. The Frankfurt striker scored a hat-trick as France claimed a 5-3 victory over the Young Lions at the Stade du Moustoir.
Ekitike has also scored 19 goals for Frankfurt this season and looks set to be one of the most sought-after players when the summer transfer window opens.
Sky Germany reported earlier this week that Ekitike is on United's shortlist of striker targets for the summer, along with Sesko at Leipzig.
Fabrizio Romano has also reported that the expectation is that Ekitike will leave Frankfurt at the end of the season.
Newcastle United have also been previously linked with a move for the striker, who signed for Frankfurt last summer on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain.
Ekitike's current deal with Frankfurt runs until the summer of 2029, having signed for a fee reported to be worth around €16million (£13.5million).
Various reports have claimed that the Bundesliga could would demand around €80million (£67million) to allow Ekitike to leave the club when the transfer window opens this summer.
