Thomas Tuchel shares verdict on Marcus Rashford performance for England, makes'not as impactful'claim

Marcus Rashford has been enjoying his football since departing Manchester United on loan in January.

After a slow start to the season, the arrival of Ruben Amorim had promised to spark life into the 27-year-old’s career at Old Trafford.

This saw him score the first goal of the Amorim era, however, just a few games later and Marcus Rashford played for Manchester United for the final time.

Rashford was dropped by Amorim for the Manchester derby, and after this, he appeared on the bench once but his fate was sealed. Rashford’s interview stating his desire for a new challenge guaranteed his exit.

Following this, United saw half of the continent show interest in signing the club’s No.10, only for Rashford to be loaned to Aston Villa at the end of the window. Since heading to Villa Park, Rashford has been impressing under Unai Emery’s management.

Thomas Tuchel reviews Marcus Rashford’s performance for England

Due to his improvements to his form, Rashford was recalled to the England squad for the first time in a year as Thomas Tuchel named his first squad.

“I think both of our wingers who started [Foden and Rashford] were not as impactful as they normally can be as they are in club football.”

This came as England beat Albania 2-0 at Wembley during Tuchel’s first game at the helm of the Three Lions. It was a World Cup qualifier which saw Miles Lewis-Skelly arrive on the scene as a star.

Tuchel’s comments sound like frustration, with the two wingers England’s worst performers on the night. Tuchel has long been a fan of Rashford which suggests that he will give the winger more chances to become key for the national team.

Marcus Rashford stats for England

Rashford’s first England appearance in a year lasted 74 minutes, and in that time he failed to score or assist without even having a shot on goal.

He created one chance and accumulated 0.65 expected assists which suggests he was slightly let down by his teammate’s finishing.

Rashford showcased his talent on the ball as he completed three dribbles which was the most in the game of any player. This is among Rashford’s best qualities but he will need to do more to secure his place as a starter.

Next for England will be another home clash, this time against Latvia on Monday night, with a win sure to set the Three Lions on a clear path toward the USA next summer.
