"I wouldn't rule out..." - Laurie Whitwell says Man Utd could sign "world-class" star in huge…

Manchester United are in the market to bolster their centre-forward options this summer and journalist Laurie Whitwell has refused to rule out the possibility of a swap deal with Alejandro Garnacho for Napoli's Victor Osimhen.

Just six goals combined, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have endured torrid campaigns thus far, and both have been regarded as being among the worst players in thePremier League this season. Supporters have grown increasingly frustrated with the duo's lack of proficiency in front of goal, and have been crying for a new striker to strengthen chances of success next term.

Boss Ruben Amorim is also desperate to add more firepower to his attack, as exclusively revealed by GIVEMESPORT, and Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, has been a key target.

Whitwell: 'Wouldn't Rule Out' United Transfer Swap Approach for Osimhen

The Red Devils could use Garnacho as a makeweight

Speaking on the Inside United podcast, Whitwell revealed that Manchester United had their eyes on bringing Osimhen to Old Trafford, and Napoli's previous interest in Garnacho could ignite a swap deal. He said:

"In terms of what they want from a striker, I think Osimhen would fit that bill.

"So I wonder what happens there. The only thing is, Napoli, how much would they want for him? And would some kind of transfer swap make some kind of sense? Obviously, they've been interested in Alejandro Garnacho already.

"I wouldn't rule out something like that potentially happening."

Napoli were linked with Garnacho in the January window, but nothing came to fruition. However, the Argentinian is still expected to leave this summer, with United eager to raise funds from selling homegrown assets to fund their transfer activity.

Meanwhile, Osimhen, previously dubbed "world-class" by Jose Mourinho, has been tearing up the Turkish top-flight, and has amassed 26 goals and a further five assists in 30 outings. He is one of the best strikers on the planet, and he is expected to be on the move again this summer, with journalist Graeme Bailey suggesting a move to England is most probable.

Reports have also linked Hojlund with a move to Napoli in exchange for Osimhen, though David Ornstein revealed the Red Devils would prefer not to part ways with the Dane given his strong potential.
