Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino have remained in touch despite the Argentine tactician’s harsh departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium nearly three years ago.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Mauricio Pochettino is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Daniel Levy has remained in regular contact with the Argentine tactician amid uncertainties surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s long-term future. So, a return to the North London club might be on the cards for the USMNT head coach.
Mauricio Pochettino and his career so far
Mauricio Pochettino has been one of the most highly-rated managers in the world since enjoying his breakthrough in the Premier League over a decade ago. A centre-back as a footballer, he turned out for well-known clubs like Espanyol and Paris Saint-Germain while representing Argentina 20 times.
The 53-year-old hung up his boots in 2006 after his second spell with Espanyol before taking charge of the Catalan club as the head coach. Since then, Pochettino has seen his stock soar, rising in prominence during his spell with Southampton before enjoying a successful stint with Tottenham Hotspur.
While the spell with Tottenham did not yield a trophy, the Argentine tactician guided the North London outfit to the UEFA Champions League final a few years ago. Since Pochettino’s departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he has had two short stints with PSG and Chelsea, showing promise at both clubs.
What next?
Chelsea shocked the world by parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino last summer, and he took over at the USMNT in 2024. The former Tottenham boss has been solid thus far, winning five of the seven games he has overseen, although the most recent outing was a surprise 1-0 defeat to Panama. Meanwhile, Pochettino remains on Tottenham’s radar amid uncertainties surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s long-term future.
The Lilywhites have endured a horrendous 2024/25 campaign thus far, although injuries have contributed to their struggles. However, failure to win the UEFA Europa League might lead to Postecoglou’s departure. That’s where Pochettino comes into the picture, with Daniel Levy in regular contact with the former Chelsea manager.
Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva are the other top targets for Tottenham. However, while Fulham will aim to tie Silva to a new contract, Bournemouth will likely initiate discussions with Iraola over improved terms. So, Pochettino might be Levy’s best bet amid the duo’s constant informal talks.
