Nobody seems to have any idea what’s going on in the mind of Aaron Rodgers. He’s got one of the greatest arms the sport has ever seen and pairs that with a unique personality. One thing we know is that he isn’t a fan of when teams leak things to reporters. PFT’s Mike Florio thinks that may have been a motivating factor in Rodgers’ decision to visit Pittsburgh.
“The fact that [Gerry] Dulac reported it means someone from the Steelers leaked it,” Florio wrote on Friday. “Which could have been a test by Rodgers to see whether the S.S. Rooney has leaks. Indeed, Rodgers has complained in the past about leaks with the Jets.”
Florio is referencing times from the past when Aaron Rodgers had complained about leaks within the Jets organization, specifically regarding a leak about him potentially being benched. It’s something he’s been on the record about in the past, so it’s fair to wonder as to whether that’s something he’d pay attention to during a visit.
To put things into perspective, though, Rodgers might not have much of a choice in the matter anyway. For now, the Vikings seem to be out on Rodgers. That leaves him with the Giants and Steelers as his only real options. Even if something leaks and Rodgers doesn’t like it, that doesn’t make up for all the other reasons there are to choose the Steelers over the Giants. Unless it really is that big of a deal to him.
Nobody really knows what Aaron Rodgers is thinking, and Florio acknowledges that this visit would have to be reported, anyways.
“But every team has leaks,” Florio said. “And the fact that Rodgers visited Pittsburgh is something that wouldn’t have remained silent, given the reporting obligation to the league office.”
In Florio’s report, he says Rodgers’ visit in Pittsburgh went on for six hours. That’s a significant amount of time. It shows that there were likely some serious conversations, rather than just a quick visit.
With the Vikings, for now, taking themselves out of the race for Rodgers, things could start to pick up steam from here. Rodgers visiting Pittsburgh two days after that report is a good example of that. It’s been a long, grueling wait for Steelers fans. However, with Rodgers’ first visit now in the books, there’s a decent chance it will all be over soon.
