Exclusive transfer Q&A: Sean Longstaff, Kevin Thelwell's successor and Everton's four targets…

A big summer of transfers awaits Everton with the market now just a matter of months away.

David Moyes is going to be demanding the Friedkins put their hand in their pockets this summer, with some serious work needing to be done.

Everton were extremely hindered by PSR over January, which will mean the upcoming window is the new owners’ first opportunity to put their own stamp on the club.

Numerous players will be departing both Goodison Park and the club at the end of the season following the end of their current deals.

The future looks bright for Everton, with new owners, a new stadium and a new lease of life handed to them under Moyes.

Fans will be hoping the positivity surrounding the club follows into the summer market as they aim for a season not battling the drop.

Speaking to Everton News, TBR Football’s Chief Transfer Correspondent Graeme Bailey has answered some of the hot topics leading into the summer.

Everton have four main summer transfer targets

Upon his appointment, Moyes was keen to add a full-back and an attacker during the January transfer window.

With time and spending power limited, the Toffees had to settle for the addition of Carlos Alcaraz on loan until the end of the season.

However, Abdoulaye Doucoure is set to leave Everton, which alongside Orel Mangala, creates a big hole in the middle of the park.

With a lot of work needing to be done, Bailey has said TFG are going into the market knowing they have four key areas to address.

“They know what they need – full-backs, midfield, wingers and a striker – they are going to be busy, that is their plan,” he said.

Everton are keen to sign Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff

Bailey has already told Everton News that Sean Longstaff is of interest to Everton, but he has now claimed they will face competition.

The Newcastle midfielder is fresh off getting his hands on the Carabao Cup last weekend at Wembley Stadium.

But his future looks to be away from Tyneside with his minutes under Eddie Howe extremely limited.

“Yes, Longstaff will be leaving Newcastle – they have made that decision. Everton like him a lot and he is a player that Moyes likes. But Everton are not the only ones interested,” Bailey added.

David Weir could make shock move to Everton

Everton have announced Kevin Thelwell will leave the club at the end of the season upon the conclusion of his contract.

The Friedkins are shuffling things up behind the scenes with the way the club is ran.

Angus Kinnear will join Everton from Leeds United, but there has been a blow in the process of finding a replacement for Thelwell.

It was announced just last week that Crystal Palace’s Dougie Freedman would be departing for Saudi Arabia – a man Everton were keen on.

However, there are other options and Brighton & Hove Albion chief David Weir is certainly someone the club are keen on.

“The Friedkin Group are working on their sporting director role, Dan Ashworth is someone considered – it is a work in progress but with Angus Kinnear already in and David Moyes, they are in good shape so far and are confident of getting the right man,” said Bailey.

“David Weir of Brighton has insisted he is not moving, but I would still keep an eye on him.”
