Anthony Gordon names one Liverpool star that has‘lost all his pace’

Anthony Gordon a rising British star commented over the journey of Curtis Jones. Jones came a long way in his football career.

Originally, started as left winger, when his pace and attacking instincts stood out. However, Jones now plays as a central midfielder for Liverpool.

Recently, Jones shared this change with the England squad. He admitted he used to play further up the field. His former position caught many by surprise, including the interviewer.

The interviewer couldn’t believe Jones had once been a winger, given his current role in the midfield.

Anthony Gordon, a close friend of Jones, was quick to make a joke. As per Charles Jones ( via TBR ), Gordon teased that Jones no longer plays on the wing due to “he lost all his pace”.

Jones laughed and agreed with Gordon’s comment. It was all in good fun, as Jones and Gordon have a strong friendship. Despite the light-hearted banter, Jones’ top speed is 29.7 km/h.

This is relatively slow compared to other professional players. For context, this places him among Liverpool’s slower players. Wingers, typically known for their speed, need to be faster than that.

An emerging ‘Maestro’ of technicality

While Jones may not be quick enough for a winger role, his technical ability is clear. As a youth player, he excelled in more advanced attacking positions.

At that stage, he frequently found the back of the net. However, his development as a midfielder has been impressive. He is known for his vision and ball control.

Jones’ playing style focuses more on creativity and passing now. His ability to read the game and make key passes has been vital for Liverpool. While his speed may not be a standout quality, his football intelligence makes him an asset.

Despite the jokes, Jones’ transition from winger to midfielder has been effective. At 24, he still has room to develop his game further. There could even be opportunities to return to a more attacking role in the future. Time will tell if Jones revisits his roots as a goal scorer.
