Given it is almost two years since Rasmus Kristensen last played for Leeds United, it's easy to forget he is still a Whites player. A 4-1 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur in May 2023 was Kristensen's last outing in a Leeds shirt, with the club's relegation from the Premier League resulting in him seeking football elsewhere.
Much like Jack Harrison who left for Everton, the Denmark international headed to Serie A and a season with AS Roma under Jose Mourinho. There had been some hope from all sides that loan move would become permanent but a change of manager in Rome led to a change in circumstances and so it was Eintracht Frankfurt that would provide the next stop for the player.
Like Harrison, Kristensen was handed a long term deal before relegation and still has two years to run on his contract at Leeds. Also like Harrison, there are few who expect to see the player back at Elland Road this summer, even if Leeds are a Premier League club once again.
Frankfurt do not appear willing at present to meet the asking price set by Leeds, thought to be around £8m, but talks will resume in the summer. The 27-year-old, currently on international duty with Denmark having helped his nation beat Portugal the other night, has now reiterated a desire to stay in Germany, where he has enjoyed a very good season.
“I’m still owned by Leeds, so that’s the scenario I have to work in. That is a fact,” he said.
“Yes, I would like to (stay in Germany), and I have not hidden that either. It is a place where my family and I are happy. I hope that we can find a solution to that, but if not, then you have to be happy somewhere else,”
