Aston Villa could reignite transfer interest in striker after international call up

Aston Villa have been linked again with a move for exciting teenage international James Wilson ahead of the summer transfer window. Wilson, who plays for Hearts, is only 18 but has been playing regularly in the Scottish top flight this year.

He has returned six goals in 25 appearances, including a late equaliser in the Edinburgh derby at Hibernian at the beginning of the season and also in the Europa Conference League draw with Petrocub.

That form earned him a place in Steve Clarke's Scotland squad for these ongoing World Cup qualifiers - Scotland won in Greece on Thursday night thanks to Scott McTominay's penalty.

Wilson has also been linked with a move to Villa's Premier League rivals Manchester United, and the two clubs were both initially keen to sign Wilson before he put pen to paper on a professional contract at Tynecastle back in 2023.

Wilson's rise in the time since has continued on a steady trajectory, however, and SportsBoom report that it's expected that clubs will revisit with their interest once the season ends and the summer transfer window opens.
