HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 21 (ACN) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz congratulated today, on behalf of the Cuban people, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, president of the Republic of Namibia, the first woman to assume the presidency of that African country.
During the greeting to Nandi-Ndaitwah after her inauguration, Marrero Cruz ratified the will to continue strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, which are celebrating their 35th anniversary Friday, the Cuban government informed on X.
At the investiture ceremony, the leader of the South West Africa People's Organization Party (Swapo), expressed her commitment to foster mutually beneficial trade relations at the global level, and called attention to the improvement of health care and education during her presidency.
During her first speech as president at State House, she assured that she will work over the next five years to empower all Namibians and improve their quality of life.
The provision of services, modernization of infrastructure, diversification of the economy and rural development through investment in agriculture are also among her priorities.
Cuba and Namibia established diplomatic relations from the very day of the African country's independence on March 21, 1990.
Since then, a friendship has been fostered and strengthened, marked by the close ties that united historic leaders Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016) and Sam Nujoma (1929-2025).
