The National Board of Accreditation (NBA), in collaboration with Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) and Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), organised a workshop on “Outcome-based Education and Accreditation.”
The event held on Saturday attracted over 300 academic leaders and administrators from colleges across Karnataka. The primary focus of the workshop was to prepare educational institutions to meet the NBA’s rigorous standards for accreditation.
Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of the NBA, in his keynote address emphasised the critical importance of aligning higher education curricula with industry requirements. He stressed on the significance of Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies (GAPC-4), a new approach under NBA’s outcome-based accreditation system.
He pointed out that India produces more than 1.5 million graduates annually, and over the past decade, the startup ecosystem in the country has experienced remarkable growth, expanding from 400 to 1.7 lakh ventures. Projections indicate that India will have 1.7 million startups in the next ten years, which is a testament to the growing trend of students becoming job creators rather than merely job seekers.
S. Vidyashankar, Vice Chancellor of VTU, reiterated the University’s commitment to following the guidelines set by the University Grants Commission (UGC). He commended the efforts of the faculty across VTU-affiliated institutions for adhering to academic timelines, particularly in ensuring the timely declaration of examination results. He also acknowledged the importance of student placements as a critical metric for evaluating the success of academic programs, underscoring the necessity of aligning education with employability.
M.R. Jayaram, Chancellor of RUAS, Prof. P.N. Rajdan, Advisor, (GEF), Anil Kumar Nassa, Member Secretary, NBA; and R.V. Ranganath, Academic Dean, RUAS, were present during the inaugural session.
