Liverpool could be awarded up to three Premier League titles if Manchester City are found guilty of 115 charges of financial rules breaches and therefore stripped of their Premier League honours. It comes with a final verdict of the case expected soon.

The wait to discover the outcome is ongoing, following the case that finished three months ago. Man City themselves have strongly denied any wrongdoing and have defended themselves against the charges of alleged breaches between 2009 and 2018.

If there are however found guilty, one of the potential punishments could be to strip the club of the Premier League titles they have won during and since the alleged breaches. A guilty verdict would suggest that the club has won the titles unfairly.

If they do get stripped of the titles, the the team who finished second behind Man City are likely to be awarded the title instead. It’s therefore a situation that Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on, having finished behind the club on three occasions.

Two of those would come in the period in which the alleged breaches took place. Both the Reds and rivals Manchester United would be awarded two titles each over the four seasons with the two clubs alternating second place finishes.

While the years after 2019 are not in the period that the charges have been made, it still could be argued that City still benefited from breaking the rules in the years that followed, if they are found guilty. It could therefore be decided that they could be stripped of titles beyond the period.

Liverpool would again be among the clubs to benefit if that is the case. The Reds finished second behind Man City for the third time since 2012 in the 2021/22 season. Manchester United and Arsenal would be the other two teams to benefit.

If found guilty, City’s potential punishments could range from a massive fine to a huge points deduction. Expulsion from the Premier League is also a possibility. However, if they are found not guilty, they they will face no punishment.
