The Toffees start the match bright and in control. Crystal Palace is unable to come off their own half and struggle to hold their lines. However, it was the visitors who had the first big chance as Weerden fired on goal, but Brosnan was there to make the save. The Everton goalkeeper has been superb this season.
Crystal Palace grew in the game quickly and earned the second big chance. Larisey dispossessed Mjelde on the left, she drove toward the box and her pass nearly found Stengel, but Vanhaevermaet intercepted just in time.
Despite having 70% of the ball in the first 25 minutes, Everton struggled to convert it into threats in the final third. A couple of crosses were sent into the box to Gago, but it was not enough to break down Crystal Palace’s defense.
As the game neared halftime, Everton earned a corner. The delivery reached Vanhaevermaet, who headed towards goal. Nouwen was there, ready to clear it off the line, but she kicked it in the roof of the net. Everton immediately pressed to doubled their lead but Palace managed to keep them at bay.
* Crystal Palace head coach Smerud took Larkin off for Veje at the start of the second half.
Everton storm out the gates and double their lead in just 24 seconds. Kelly Gago delivered a ball into the box and Holmgaard got her head to it, glancing it into the bottom corner.
Minutes later, Crystal Palace has a big chance but Brosnan blocked the effort. The referee initially pointed to the spot, as Stengel had been fouled but it ended up to be a drop ball for the Everton goalkeeper.
Crystal Palace did well to keep pushing for a way into the game instead of let the confusion get to them. Smerud made another change, replacing Green with Riley.
The visitors continued to create problems for Everton in the back, but it wouldn’t quite click in the box. Larisey was excellent, working past defenders on multiple occassions, but she could not find the back of the net. Brian Sørensen saw his side needed fresh legs on the pitch and made the following substitutions:
* Sarri and Hope on for Snoeijs and Heather Payne.
A last resort for Crystal Palace: Larisey came off for Hughes. Five minutes of added time were announced, but Everton held firm, not giving anything away, even though Palace continued to fight until the final second.
Everton even scored the 3-0, with seconds remaining on the clock. Holmgaard sent Kelly Gago away, who outsmarted Nouwen and flicking it over the goalkeeper.
Crystal Palace will be looking at Aston Villa’s result against Manchester United tomorrow and possibly Leicester City’s against Brighton & Hove Albion. Everton sit in 7th place for now.
