Aston Villa defender Lamare Bogarde is wanted by Unai Emery's former club Sevilla, according to reports in Spain. Young defender Bogarde has enjoyed a breakthrough season this term under Emery, having previously enjoyed loan spells with League One outfit Bristol Rovers.
The 21-year-old, who has made 16 first-team appearances so far this season, including most recently in the 3-1 away leg win over Club Brugge at the beginning of this month, is currently away with the Netherlands under 21s during this international break.
While away, he has been quoted by overseas press suggesting that he was aware of interest from clubs back in the Netherlands, but reports in Spain suggest that Sevilla are keen too and even claimed that they asked about Bogarde when Villa were exploring a deal for Loic Bade in January.
This month, Bogarde was quoted as saying about the speculation: “I have seen it pass by, yes. It’s great that a big club like Ajax is interested in you. Yes, with respect to Aston Villa, I am still under contract with them. My future will soon be more coming out. Right now, I’m just happy at Aston Villa. We will come to a decision together.”
Bogarde joined Villa from boyhood club Feyenoord in 2020, at just 16, and worked within the club's academy at Bodymoor Heath during the tenure of Dean Smith. The then teenager made his senior debut in the famous FA Cup tie against Liverpool, when Villa's first team were forced to self-isolate after a Covid outbreak.
He was linked with a move to Nottingham Forest last summer, but Bogarde signed a contract extension with Villa at the end of August.
