On March 20, 2025, a prominent figure in Baltimore basketball unfortunately passed away. Carlton Carrington Sr., the father of Washington Wizards rookie Carlton "Bub" Carrington, passed away. Some of Carrington Sr.'s former players took to social media to express their condolences.
The Wizards' social media account on X also posted a message from Carrington's family.
"While deeply heartbroken over the loss of Big Bub Carrington, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support that we've received," the message read. "Your kindness, compassion, and thoughtful words have meant so much to our family and have brought comfort as we navigate this difficult time."
"Big Bub was the heart and soul of our family. He was a pillar in the community as someone who dedicated his life to serving others. We take comfort in knowing that he lived life to the fullest and made it his mission to positively impact his community each and every day. We will miss his spirit, but know his legacy will live on in all the lives he touched."
Carrington Sr. was a major figure in Baltimore basketball, being involved in the youth coaching circles. His influence with the University of Pittsburgh led to his son, Bub Carrington, signing with the team. Bub Carrington would eventually be drafted by the Wizards with the 24th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Carrington Sr's cause of death has not been announced, as well as funeral arrangements for the recently deceased former coach.
