The Denver Broncos have hired Jeff Schmedding as their inside-linebackers coach.
Schmedding served as Auburn’s linebackers coach in 2021 and worked as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator in 2022 after coming to the Plains from Boise State with coach Bryan Harsin.
The Denver Post, NFL Network and CBS Sports reported on Friday night that Schmedding is filling the vacancy on Sean Payton’s staff created when Greg Manusky was fired in January.
For the previous two seasons, Schmedding worked as the defensive coordinator at Washington State.
Schmedding has 21 seasons of coaching experience, but all of that has come at the college level.
The Broncos yielded the third-fewest points and the seventh-fewest yards in the NFL during the 2024 season, when Denver led the league with 63 sacks.
