Why former Stoke City star Peter Crouch has brought out the robot again

Ex-England and Stoke City ace Peter Crouch delighted fans with his iconic robot celebration after netting a goal for Liverpool Legends against Chelsea.

The 44 year old, who typically saved the move for England games during his professional career, couldn't resist reviving it when he scored the opener.

Crouch boasts an illustrious career, having donned the jerseys of Liverpool, Portsmouth, Tottenham, and Stoke City, among others.

He accumulated 106 goals in 468 Premier League appearances and 22 goals in 42 England caps.

Crouch was brought on as one of several half-time substitutes and quickly made his mark by breaking the deadlock. A cross from the right flank required some work, but he managed to drive a header into the top corner of Carlo Cudicini's goal.

He doubled his tally midway through the second half. Crouch's initial attempt from a Mark Gonzalez cross was thwarted, but he was quickest to react, lofting the ball into the far corner.

Liverpool's team was managed by Kenny Dalglish, featuring former captains Sami Hyypia and Steven Gerrard, alongside younger ex-players like Ragnar Klavan and Martin Kelly. Roberto Di Matteo took the reins for Chelsea, bringing on fellow Italian Gianfranco Zola in the second half.

Liverpool fans snapped up all available tickets for the match, which served as a fundraiser for the LFC Foundation. Those in the home end were thrilled not only to see Crouch score but also to witness his stylish celebration, reports [the Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/liverpool-chelsea-legends-crouch-celebration-34913099).

Natasha Dowie, the former England international, made history as the first female player to feature in a Liverpool Legends match at Anfield on Saturday. Unlike some of her fellow ex-pros who were plagued by injuries, Dowie had a memorable outing.

The crowd warmly welcomed Dowie when she replaced Mohamed Sissoko towards the end of the first half. At 36, she was one of the younger players on the pitch and made her mark with challenges on Chelsea's Claude Makelele and Ramires.

However, it was a day to forget for another former Red, goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, who had to leave the field within 20 minutes due to an injury sustained while attempting to initiate a counter-attack. His replacement was Sander Westerveld.

Westerveld, a former team-mate of current Reds manager Arne Slot at Sparta Rotterdam, produced the save of the match at 1-0. He brilliantly denied Robert Huth's point-blank header, showcasing his reflexes to push the ball to safety.
