Turkey: Istanbul mayor appears in court on charges of corruption and terrorism

The Mayor of Istanbul has appeared in court on charges of corruption and terrorism, as protests continue in cities across Turkey against his arrest.

Ekrem Imamoglu – who’s a key opposition leader – denied the charges and said he and his colleagues were faced with “unimaginable accusations and slanders”.

In the past few days, hundreds of protestors have been arrested – while police used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse some of the crowds.
